We introduced our newest employee Andrew, recently. I wanted to show an update of him hard at work. Unfortunately, the only picture I could find was him sorting through the trash.

I also wanted to provide our 2023 recycling numbers. With your help we were able to recycling the following totals:

  • Shredded paper – 523,320 lbs.
  • Cardboard – 213,780 lbs.
  • Boat/shrink wrap – 85,480 lbs.
  • In total that is over 822,000 lbs. of material that was diverted from our landfills and repurposed.
  • In 2024, we plan on going over the 1-million-pound mark.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We all say it, but do we truly give thanks. It is very easy to take for granted stuff. Whether it is good health, nice car, new clothes, great sense of humor etc. No matter what your situation is, we all have things to be grateful for. We recently started a family tradition at the Johnson household for Thanksgiving. After we say grace, we go around the table and every says something specific they are grateful for. We even make the grandsons take part. I would encourage everyone to at least take a moment to reflect. Especially before the madness of Black Friday takes over.

This year Firelands Local will be closed on Black Friday. I apologize in advance.

I have included a picture of one of the many turkeys we have around her.

Our next drop off day will be Wed. December 7 from 9-2.

Well fall is certainly upon us. Many of you realize this because the calendar says so. Some because it was my birthday last week. Ok, maybe only 1 person. Most realize this because of the cooler temperatures. We, Firelands Local, know it is fall because Payne Nickles had there community shred day last Thursday.

As usual, they had a great day. They collected a total of 24,680 pounds of paper. This is the equivalent of an armored car. Sandusky had a total of 11,111 lbs. collected. This year Norwalk came out on top with a total of 13,569 lbs. collected. The efforts of the wonderful associates and the community members that participated helped save 209.78 trees from being harvested.

Firelands Local wants to send a huge thank you to all the associates at both the Norwalk and Sandusky offices for their help with this event.

The pictures show our storage room filled after we collected all material. The other picture is the mountain of boxes created from emptying a portion of the material.
